VK TIP 116: Blessings from GURU GOBIND SINGH ji, virtues, dignity, courage, fight against wrong, love

Satnaam Waheguru ji,

GOLDEN SUNRISE to all

Today celebrating 352nd Birth Anniversary of the10th Sikh Guru , Shri Guru Gobind Singh ji

 Shri Guru Gobind Singh ji became the 10th Sikh Guru at a tender age after his father Guru Tegh Bahadur Singh ji's death.

He is respected as a renowned Poet, his significant contribution in literature and scriptures, a Philosopher, a great Warrior and Leader.

 He formed his own army of warriors, establishing the PANTH KHALSA. He asked for 5 volunteers whom he called PANJ PYARE.

He added water and sugar in an iron bowl, mixed it with a double-edged sword to prepare AMRIT (nectar). He then fed this AMRIT to the Panj Pyare, along with recitations from ADI GRANTH, happening of the khande ka pahul (baptization ceremony) of a Khalsa – a warrior community.

He gave a new name to Khalsa warriors, for men, SINGH, meaning lion and KAUR to females.

 He introduced the tradition for every Sikh/Khalsa to adopt the 5Ks and wear them all the time

KESH (uncut hair), embracing the Divine will as blessed, a means to profess Sikh's faith

KANGA (wooden comb), for grooming hair, tucked in the tress-knot under the turban. It will remind us of our humility in learning to accept ourselves.

KARA (iron or steel bangle worn on wrist), symbolising perfection, balance and infinity of Divine force. Wearing Kara is continuous or unbreakable engagement, commitment and love of a discipline to the Guru and God, to adore Him and follow all karma in glory of God. Reminds us to perform duties of righteousness in our entire life.

KIRPAN ( a sword or dagger), symbol of knowledge and authority, a weapon of defence from unprovoked armed attack, freeing from suffering. Blessing a right to live.

KACCHERA (short breeches), a stitched short pants under the wrapped loin cloth.

 He introduced code for every Sikh to stay away from tobacco and adultery.

Guru Gobind Singh ji and his Khalsa army inspired Sikh devotees to fight the Mughal rulers for their religious freedom and political liberty.

His strength and power to win 13 significant battles against Moghul army makes him a great leader and Warrior.

 It is believed that he made significant contribution in composing the text DASHAM GRANTH including JAAP SAHIB, AMRIT SAVALYE and BENTI CHAUPAI forming daily prayers, NITNEM

He finalised the Kartarpur Pothi as GURU GRANTH SAHIB ji and declared it "The Eternal Guru of all Sikhs".

 There are 52 Hukams(set of instructions for Sikh/Khalsa) set by Guru Gobind Singh ji which are at Nanded, Maharashtra.

Some of them , which every human being can adopt

Dharam dee kirat karnee ..... Make a living through honest deeds.
Kisae dee ninda, chugalee, atae eirkhaa nahee karnee .... Do not gossip nor slander, or be spiteful to anyone.
Kaurha bachan nahee kahinaa ... Do not speak in bitterness
Bachan karkae paalnaa .... Keep all promises made
Istree da mooh nahee phitkaarnaa .... Do not subject your wife to cursing, or verbal abuse.
Sat Saroop Satgur daa dhian dharnaa .... Contemplate and assimilate the beautiful truth of the True Enlightener.

 With VK, one can request VK to bless virtues and strength to follow the teachings from Guru Gobind Singh ji, to bless us courage to be with the right and protect our dignity and life against the wrong, to bless us to remain in commitment and love with the Divine's will in all situations of life.
