VK TIP 128 : Spiritual awakening and Guru Brahma mantra, seeking blessings on Guru purnima

The word Guru is derived from two words, gu and ru. The Sanskrit root gu means darkness or ignorance, and ru denotes the remover of that darkness.

Guru Purnima is celebrated today , on full moon day. Purnima of Hindu month Aashada.

It is also known as Vyasa Purnima, the day dedicated to worship Maharishi Veda Vyas. He is worshiped as a Great sage, who compiled four vedas, 18 puranas, epic Mahabharat and Shrimad Bhagwat. He was born on this day and completed his great work Brahma Sutra on this day.

On this day Lord Shiva became Adi Guru, the first Guru. Guru Purnima is held sacred in yogic tradition because as Adiyogi graced the blessings for a human being to evolve consciously. The seven disciplines who took the knowledge of 7 yogic aspects from Adiguru to whole world were known as Saptarishi.

This day holds significance in Buddhism and Jainism .
On this day, Lord Buddha who gave his first oration to five monks at Sarnath in Uttar Pradesh, about five weeks after his enlightenment. His first oration is Dhammacakkappavattana Sutta (Dharma Chakra Pravartan Sutra)

Guru Purnima is celebrated as Treenok Guha Purnima to honor Lord Mahavira, 24th Tirthankara in Jainism. It is believed that Lord Mahavira has first follower, Gautam Swami, after which he became a Treenok Guha.

Guru Purnima is a day where disciples visit their Gurus and pay their respect and seek blessings

On Guru purnima, this mantra is especially chanted.

Gurur Sakshat Parabrahma Tasmai Shree Gurave Namah

Meaning -

The Guru is the creator, preserver and the destroyer of the worlds. In this context, the Guru is believed to be equal to Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva, the holy trinity. Guru is absolute, the Supreme Soul to whom I bow with respect. The one who removes darkness and could be inside or outside me.

This mantra when chanted repeatedly, can increase consciousness and realisation that presence of a Guru and his/her teachings can help the disciple in spiritual awakening and enlightenment.

Wholeheardly express gratitude to the Guru, presence of Guru and seek blessings from Guru.
While chanting this mantra, request VK to connect self to your inner self (Guru within you) for spiritual awakening and enlightenment.
