Chalisa is derived from word Chalis which is Number 40.
Hanuman Chalisa is a poetic praise written by Saint Tulsidas way back in 16th century. It has 40 Chaupai poetic praising and praying to Lord Hanuman. And then there is an opening and closing verse too.
Chaupai is referred to 4 syllable hindi poetry version.
All the verses in HANUMAN CHALISA have its own significance.
