Navratri 5th Day,

Worshipping MAA DURGA as MAA Skandamata, symbolising mother - son relationship

Maa #Durga in form of Maa Skandamata is mother of Lord Kartikeya.

Maa Skandamata in this form has, with four arms , three eyes and a bright complexion. Her left arm is in the pose to grant boons with grace to her devotees.

She is accompanied by Lord Skanda in the form of an infant . She rides on a lion and takes her son in her lap.

It is believed that Tarkasur , a demon pleased Lord Brahma with his devotion and tough penance. He asked Lord Brahma to bless him immortality. On refusal , he asked for a wish that he could be killed only by son of Lord Shiva, thinking that Lord Shiva will not marry. Lord Shiva married Goddess Parvati and got a son, Kartikeya or Skand. Lord Kartikeya killed Tarkasur.

If a devotee worships Maa Skandamata, he also worships Lord Kartikeya as he is on her lap.
